👉 About the keynote speaker:
Elisabeth Gsottbauer is a Professor of Environmental Economics at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, where she also heads the Competence Centre for Sustainability. Before joining unibz, she served as an Assistant Professor at the London School of Economics (LSE). She remains active as a Visiting Fellow at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the LSE, in the Department of Land Economy & C-EENRG (Cambridge Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance) at the University of Cambridge, and in the Department of Economics at the University of Innsbruck. She received her PhD from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
She is currently also a Lead Author of the Austrian Climate Status Report and serves on the advisory board for the Climate Citizens‘ Jury and Climate Plan in South Tyrol.
This talk looks into carbon offsets and their impact on corporate sustainability efforts. I discuss how, if not carefully handled, carbon offsets might end up more as greenwashing than real help for the environment. It offers insights for companies considering using carbon offsets to reach their net zero goals.
